Notes
First served with the 458th BG, 755th BS
755th Squadron Code: J3
Tail Code: O
Obtained from the 458th BG during the J for H trade with the 458th for PROJECT AZON. Its last mission with the 458th was on 31 May 44 and its first with the 492nd was on 6 Jun 44. Therefore, it came into the 492nd during that time. At present, we do not know which plane it replaced.
858th Squadron Code: 9A
Tail Code: O- (underlined)
To our knowledge this aircraft was never given a nickname or had any nose art painted on it.
19 Jun 44: Reassigned to the 857th BS when the 858th was cut from the Group.
857th Squadron Code: 9H
Tail Code: O- (underlined)
The new squadron and tail codes were not repainted due to lack of time. According to the formation sheet and the J FORM for mission 34, this aircraft was still using its old 858th letter with the underline. The J FORM clearly shows this plane was assigned to the 857th.
22 Jun 44: reassigned to the 856th BS to replace 44-40161 TROUBLEHUNTER lost 20 Jun 44.
856th Squadron Code: 5Z
Tail Code: O- (underlined)
Again new squadron and tail codes were not repainted due to lack of time. It was used to replace TROUBLEHUNTER which just happened to had used the same tail letter.
On its first mission as an 856th plane, it was lent to the 857th and flown by the Monroe Crew R-01. They were shot down by flak. So on paper, the 857th owed the 856th a replacement plane.
23 Jun 44: Lost w/Monroe Crew R-01, shot down by flak over Brussels, Belgium.
8 KIA, 2 POW, MACR 6242
This aircraft was replaced with 42-50313 WABASH CANNON BALL obtained from the 857th.
