Notes
There were two planes with serial numbers with the last three digits of 132, so this mission record may have some errors. The histories of these two planes have often been melded together. We believe we have confirmed the missions listed below as accurate, but cannot be 100% certain.
The in the "Notes" column below indicates the missions confirmed thus far (see Footnotes).
This plane was ferried over by the Morris Crew w/446th BG. They named (and painted) it MOJALAJAB by combining letters from the names of the four officers of the crew. The 492nd did not change it.
MoJaLaJab = Morris, Jackson, Lauten, Jaborski
This plane was obtained from the replacement depot to replace one of the earlier losses. At this time we do not know which one it replaced.
858th Squadron Code: 9A
Tail Code: G- (underlined)
15 Jun 44: Lost w/McMurray Crew 801. Shot up by GAF, they limped to the Allied beachhead and bailed out, landing on both sides of the front. All escaped capture and were returned to duty.
1 WIA, 9 RTD
Note: The downing of this ship became the infamous Luftwaffe Ace Col Josef "Pips" Priller's 100th Victory.
Since the 858th was going to be cut from the Group four days later, this plane was not replaced at the 858th. If a replacement did come in then it went to another squadron.
